Please join us on January 24, 2022, for a special seminar by Dr. Orna Issler, entitled “The missing LINC- Long non-coding RNA as key players in depression.”
Major depressive disorder is a common, chronic, and debilitating disorder that strikes women twice as men, yet the molecular mechanisms contributing to this sex difference are poorly understood. In my talk, I will describe studies on the sex-specific roles of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), a class of regulatory transcripts, in depression. This research integrated cutting-edge molecular, bioinformatics, behavioral, and physiological approaches spanning both humans and mice. I found that lncRNAs are robustly regulated in a sex-specific manner in depression and identified and thoroughly studied key sex-specific lncRNAs linked to depression. Together, these findings provide a fundamentally new view of molecular neuroadaptations that contribute to depression risk and may lead to the identification of novel targets for treatment and diagnosis.
