ABSTRACT

Transforming mental health services to recovery-orientation is a policy priority worldwide including Quebec. The Mental Health Commission of Canada published the Guidelines for Recovery-Oriented Practice in 2015 to guide this transformation. However, the uptake of the guidelines has been slow and inconsistent. What is missing from these guidelines is a process that organizations can follow to actually implement the guidelines. We developed an innovative facilitated planning process grounded in implementation science. After successfully rolling-out the process/implementation strategy into seven mental health and housing organizations across five provinces, materials were developed into a bilingual online toolkit- walkthetalktoolkit.ca /delaparolealaction.ca. The toolkit is designed to build capacity in organizations. Internal or external implementation facilitators are guided through a three-step process to translate the guidelines into a tangible recovery-oriented innovation that takes account of the needs of their clientele and their unique context. Walkthetalktoolkit.ca/delaparolealaction.ca was launched in February 2022. Two organizations have joined the early adopter program and their assigned facilitators are receiving coaching from toolkit creators.
