On January 1, 2023, the Douglas Research Centre welcomed its newest member, Dr. Linda Booij.
Dr. Booij obtained her Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology at Leiden University in the Netherlands, where she conducted studies on serotonin, cognition, and depression. As a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Psychiatry of McGill University, she was trained in PET imaging and genetics.
Prior to her current recruitment to the Douglas, she held an academic position at Concordia, and has been an active researcher at the Sainte-Justine Hospital Research Centre, conducting research on the role of serotonin in brain development and on the impact of early adversity on brain development and risk for psychopathology, particularly mood and eating disorders.
After holding an appointment as an Associate Researcher at the Douglas Research Centre since 2019, Dr. Booij now joins us as a Full Researcher, focusing on the biopsychosocial pathways of eating disorders. Her research is conducted in individuals with eating disorders and in longitudinal community cohorts, and involves imaging technology, genetic and epigenetic markers, as well as behavioural and cognitive measures. As such, she will be a member of the Youth Mental Health and Early Intervention theme-based group and the Clinical Research Division.
Dr. Booij has also been appointed as a Full Professor at McGill University and as a Psychologist and Head of Research and Academic Development of the Eating Disorders Continuum of the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. There, she will be developing an ambitious research program, including studies on the neurobiology of eating disorders, biopsychosocial predictors, and trajectories of treatment response and on virtual interventions.
We look forward to celebrating many future successes with Dr. Booij!
