We are pleased to welcome Majid Mohajerani, PhD, who joined the Douglas Research Centre in August 2023. Dr. Mohajerani joins us as a basic neuroscience researcher, with an appointment as an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University.
Dr. Mohajerani joins us from the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience, University of Lethbridge. He has obtained his BSc, MSc, and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Neuroscience, respectively. Before joining the University of Lethbridge as a CAIP Chair in Healthy Brain Aging and Dementia and later as Bryan Kolb Chair, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of British Columbia.
Here at the Douglas, his research program will centre on neural dynamics, specifically sensorimotor integration and memory systems. He employs a combination of optical imaging, electrophysiology, behavioural methods, and computational tools to investigate how different brain areas communicate with one another to (a) encode and consolidate memory or (b) generate motor movement based on sensory inputs. His team also develops technologies for studying the brain across multiple spatiotemporal scales while assessing relevant behaviour to comprehend how brain activity shapes behaviour.
Welcome, Dr. Mohajerani!
