The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) highlight, through their project Faces of Health Research, inspiring stories from researchers and patients that showcase the tangible impact of health research across the country.
The Douglas Research Centre is proud to see the work of Dr. Katie Lavigne, Assistant Professor and Head of the Douglas Open Science Program, featured in this initiative.
In her testimony, titled Opening up mental health research: Open science at the Douglas Research Centre, she explains how our institute became, in 2021, the first mental health research institution in Canada to adopt open science on a large scale.
This approach promotes collaboration, accelerates discoveries, and is grounded in ethically responsible practices.
It is characterized notably by:
- the sharing of research data and tools,
- the networking of independently funded projects,
- and the direct involvement of patients and individuals with lived experience in the design of research projects.
