The official inauguraion of the Centre for translational research on Mood Disorders and Suicide and of the modernized Douglas Bell Canada Brain Bank took place August 24th 2015. An investment of $9.8 million made the development of these important infrastructures possible.
“With this major investment, the centre can cement its position as a world leader in research and take one more step in applying research to human patients,”
stated Dr. Gustavo Turecki, the director of the new centre.
The Quebec ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et des Exportations gave the largest part of the funding, with $7,38 millions. Other major investors are Bell Canada with 2 million dollars and the Douglas Mental Health Institute Foundation, with approximately 600 000 dollars.
The Minister of Economy, Jacques Daoust, and his colleague from Health and Social Services, Gaétan Barrette, made the announcement on August 24th, in Verdun, in the presence of researchers, and representatives from Bell Canada and the Douglas Foundation.
