We are pleased to share that last fall, Dr. Gustavo Turecki (lead investigator) and Dr. Corina Nagy (co-investigator) obtained funding through the NIH R01 Research Project Grant Program.
Their project, entitled, Large-scale, single-cell characterization of molecular and cellular networks of mood regulation circuitry in major depressive disorder, is a Collaborative R01, with additional funding awarded to research partners ath the Lieber Institute for Brain Development (Thomas M. Hyde). This project is an exciting opportunity to foster collaboration between two internationally-renowned brain repositories.
Congratulations to Drs. Turecki and Nagy!
Summary of the project
The proposed research will significantly advance our understanding of the cellular and molecular pathways, and cell-specific transcriptomic profiles contributing to the neurobiological basis of major depressive disorder. Through a better understanding of the mechanisms of depressive illness, we may be one step closer to developing novel treatment strategies and personalize interventions. The proposed project will examine an unprecedented number of brain samples from both the Douglas-Bell Canada Brain Bank and the Lieber Human Brain Repository. The goal is to study samples from various genetic ancestry to identify molecular processes that are disease- and sex- specific.
