Dr Bruno Giros has been appointed to the Neuropsychopharmacology Committee of the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR) as representative of the Canadian Society for Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CSPT). This honour recognizes his expertise in neuropharmacology and his commitment to advancing research on neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.
Despite considerable progress in the definition, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders, the medical sector still has unmet needs to address. The development of new drugs for neuropsychiatric disorders can significantly improve patients’ quality of life while reducing the future economic burden on healthcare systems. Identifying new molecular targets and developing more predictive animal models are essential steps in designing therapies capable of modifying the clinical course of these disorders.
IUPHAR plays a central role in setting standards in pharmacology and, through its Neuropsychopharmacology Committee, aims to promote international cooperation in preclinical and clinical research. This committee fosters collaboration among international experts, the development of educational and scientific programmes, and helps shape the global agenda for research and policy in neuropsychopharmacology.
