We are pleased to share that in April, Alice Morgunova, PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Cecilia Flores (Flores lab), won the International Congress on Academic Medicine (ICAM) poster award. She has since featured in McGill’s Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies’ Excellence Spotlight.
ICAM is the first premier academic medicine congress in North America supported by AFMC’s international committee. Winning the ICAM Poster Award is a significant achievement and recognition for the graduate students in the field of academic medicine. In addition to its originality, innovation, scientific merit, and clarity of presentation, the winner’s work demonstrates their ability to conduct high-quality research.
In her current research, Morgunova investigates microRNAs as circulating markers of depression risk via biosample profiling and the study of their association with specific behavioural outcomes, structural brain alterations, and modulation of genes and gene networks. Her objective is to enhance the understanding of microRNA’s role in adolescent psychiatric vulnerability and make contributions to the creation of predictive biomarkers and intervention strategies for this critical period of brain maturation.
In addition to the ICAM Poster Award, Morgunova has been selected as one of the nominees to attend the prestigious Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Germany.
Congratulations to Alice Morgunova on this achievement!
