From Data to Dialogue: The Role of Storytelling in Knowledge TranslationData to Dialogue Symposium

We are pleased to introduce From Data to Dialogue: The Role of Storytelling in Knowledge Translation — an exciting afternoon symposium exploring the many ways that crafting compelling scientific stories can help researchers reach the right audiences with their work.

This Douglas-led event is developed with support from the McGill Tremplin consortium and is open to researchers from the Montreal area of all career levels. The objectives are to:

  • Explore foundational knowledge around storytelling frameworks and their applied use in knowledge translation activities
  • Use real-world examples of scientific storytelling, through diverse media, to spark inspiration and collaboration
  • Offer practical advice to researchers interested in developing and enhancing their knowledge translation work through stories

The symposium will include:

  • Keynote Presentation and Activity: Crafting Science Stories
    • led by Renira Narrandes, MA, MSc(OT), MPH — a knowledge translation expert, storyteller, and spoken word artist, with a clinical and research background, who uses her unique blend of passion, skill, and expertise to lead storytelling workshops across Canada.
  • Panel Discussion: Storytelling in Action!
    • A guided conversation with 3 science communicators who use art, technology, and personal narratives to tell science stories that make an impact.
  • Q&A: Funding Opportunities
    • An interactive session sharing tips and tricks for finding and securing funding for knowledge translation projects.
  • Story Spotlight and Networking Session 5 à 7
    • A poster-style session that gives researchers the chance to present, collaborate, and get feedback on their knowledge translation work.

This in-person event will take place on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm EST, at MC Hall,  3715 Av. Lacombe, Montréal, QC H3T 1Y5
