On 9 July, the Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, and the Minister of Health, the Honourable Marjorie Michel, announced more than $1.3 billion in funding to support over 9,700 researchers and research projects across the country.
We are therefore pleased to announce that Mr. Zaki Alasmar (Zeighami lab) and Mr. Navid Ghassemi (Mohajerani lab) have been awarded Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year for the following research proposals.
- Zaki Alsmar – Bridging the Neuroimaging Gap: Multiscale Approaches to Assess White Matter Microstructure and its Connectivity
- Navid Ghassemi – Creating Foundation for Next-Generation Machine-Learning Tools for Automated Analysis of Rodent Behavioral Patterns in Home Cage Monitoring Systems.
Honouring the memory of Major General Georges P. Vanier, Canada’s first French-speaking Governor General, this scholarship program helps Canadian institutions attract highly qualified doctoral students.
Good research supports good health. And today we are investing in the education and training of Canada’s brightest doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers whose great research will lead to the scientific breakthroughs of tomorrow in health and many other fields. Together, their exceptional work will help build a stronger, more innovative Canada and a healthier future for us all. – The Honourable Marjorie Michel, Minister of Health
