November 14, 2024,
On November 14, the Government of Canada announced the funding of 224 new or renewed Canada Research Chairs. This investment will enable researchers to advance critical knowledge in a wide range of fields.
Among the recipients is Dr. Marie-Claude Geoffroy, who received the renewal of her Canada Research Chair in Youth Suicide Prevention. This Tier 2 chair, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), supports her work to better understand and prevent suicide among vulnerable populations, a critical public health issue.
Canada’s researchers continue to pave the way and lead on solutions to some of the world’s most complex problems. Today’s investment in our researchers and the postsecondary institutions that host them will foster groundbreaking discoveries, address systemic barriers, and lead to social and economic benefits that impact Canadians today, as well as future generations.
– Ted Hewitt, Tri-agency Institutional Programs Steering Committee; and President, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada
This investment is part of a national funding package of $182 million to support the 224 chairholders through the Canada Research Chairs Program, an initiative that fosters excellence and innovation at post-secondary institutions across the country.
Congratulations Dr. Geoffroy!
