Call for Applications: The Rémi Quirion and Holly Carsley 2025 Awards

We are pleased to announce that the Rémi Quirion Excellence Awards and the Holly Carsley Memorial Awards are being renewed this year.

2025 Dr. Holly Carsley Memorial Award

Thanks to generous gifts from Dr. Holly Carsley’s family and friends, the Douglas Research Centre and the Douglas Foundation are happy to announce this year’s competition of the Dr. Holly Carsley Memorial Award to recognize the outstanding work of a Douglas resident, postdoctoral fellow or Ph.D. student pursuing research in the area of depression and suicide. The goal of the Award is to stimulate young researchers to perform high quality research that has the potential to prevent depression and suicide, and improve diagnosis and treatment of depression.

Call for the Dr. Holly Carsley Memorial Award

 

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, the applicants must:

  • Be a resident in Psychiatry (research stream) presently conducting research or be registered in a doctoral-level program in an accredited university or be a postdoctoral fellow;
  • Have completed at least one year as resident in Psychiatry at the Douglas (for residents) or at least one year in research at the Douglas (for Ph.D. students and postdocs);
  • Be conducting research in the area of depression and/or suicide under the supervision of a principal investigator who is a member of the Douglas;
  • Show an excellent track record of past accomplishments as well as the demonstrated potential to contribute new research findings toward the objectives of this award (as described above).

Value

Two prizes of $1,000.

Application Procedure

The applicant should submit the following documents as a single PDF document:

  1. A curriculum vitae.
  2. A short explanation of why the applicant thinks he/she/they is/are the best candidate to receive this award (max 200 words).
  3. A description of the applicant’s research work (both past and planned) and its significance to the goal of the award as described above (max 500 words).
  4. A short letter of recommendation by the Douglas research supervisor (this letter can either be integrated by the applicant in the application file or sent directly by the supervisor to Colleen Carter, carter@douglas.mcgill.ca).

2025 Rémi Quirion Excellence Award

Thanks to generosity of former students and collaborators, the Douglas Research Centre and the Douglas Foundation are happy to announce the Rémi Quirion Excellence Award. In addition to being a world-renowned researcher in the field of neuroscience and mental health and to presently hold the position of Quebec’s Chief Scientist, Dr. Quirion was the Scientific Director of the Douglas Research Centre from 1996 to 2011. As such, he has highly contributed to model the research centre as we know it. In particular, he has always been a strong promoter of the essential contribution of students to the research centre. With this in mind, this new excellence award aims to recognize the outstanding research contribution of Master students of the Douglas Research Centre.

Deadline for submission : Friday March 28, 2025, 5:00 PM

  • Be registered in a Master-level program in an accredited university, on the deadline date of the present competition (March 28th, 2025);
  • Have as their main Master studies supervisor a principal investigator who is a member of the Douglas.

Value

  2. A short explanation of why he/she thinks he/she is the best candidate to receive this award, including his/her achievements in research at the Douglas research centre and their impact, as well as other significant achievements and activities (max 350 words).
  3. A short letter of recommendation by the Douglas research supervisor (this letter can either be integrated by the applicant in the application file or sent directly by the supervisor to Colleen Carter, carter@douglas.mcgill.ca).
