Accepting applications for the 2024 Holly Carsley Memorial Award

We are pleased to announce that the Holly Carsley Memorial Award has been renewed for 2024.

What is the Holly Carsley Memorial Award ?

Thanks to generous gifts from Dr. Holly Carsley’s family and friends, the Douglas Research Centre and the Douglas Foundation are happy to announce this year’s competition of the Dr. Holly Carsley Memorial Award to recognize the outstanding work of a Douglas resident, postdoctoral fellow or Ph.D. student pursuing research in the area of depression and suicide. The goal of the Award is to stimulate young researchers to perform high quality research that has the potential to prevent depression and suicide, and improve diagnosis and treatment of depression.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: FRIDAY APRIL 5, 2024, AT 5:00 PM

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, the applicants must:

Be a resident in Psychiatry (research stream) presently conducting research or be registered in a doctoral-level program in an accredited university or be a postdoctoral fellow;
Have completed at least one year as resident in Psychiatry at the Douglas (for residents) or at least one year in research at the Douglas (for Ph.D. students and postdocs);
Be conducting research in the area of depression and/or suicide under the supervision of a principal investigator who is a member of the Douglas;
Show an excellent track record of past accomplishments as well as the demonstrated potential to contribute new research findings toward the objectives of this award (as described above).

Two prizes of $2,000

Application Procedure

The applicant should submit the following documents as a single PDF document:

A curriculum vitae.
A short explanation of why the applicant thinks he/she/they is/are the best candidate to receive this award (max 200 words).
A description of the applicant’s research work (both past and planned) and its significance to the goal of the award as described above (max 500 words).
A short letter of recommendation by the Douglas research supervisor (this letter can either be integrated by the applicant in the application file or sent directly by the supervisor to Colleen Carter, carter@douglas.mcgill.ca).

Submit the PDF application document to Colleen Carter, at the email address: colleen.carter@douglas.mcgill.ca, with “Carsley application” as the subject line, before Friday April 5, 2024. Late submissions, and submissions that are incomplete or do not fulfill the above criteria will NOT be considered.

Award Announcement

Candidates will be notified of the results of the competition in May 2024.

Qu’est-ce que le Prix commémoratif de la Dre Holly Carsley 2024?

Grâce à de généreux dons de la famille et des amis de la Dre Holly Carsley, le centre de recherche et la fondation du Douglas sont heureux d’annoncer la compétition annuelle du prix honorifique de la Dre Holly Carsley, visant à souligner le travail exceptionnel d’un(e) résident, stagiaire postdoctoral(e) ou étudiant(e) au doctorat du Douglas faisant de la recherche dans le domaine de la dépression et du suicide. Le but de ce prix est d’encourager les jeunes chercheurs à faire de la recherche de grande qualité ayant le potentiel de prévenir la dépression et le suicide, et d’améliorer le diagnostic et le traitement de la dépression.

DATE LIMITE: VENDREDI LE 5 AVRIL 2024, 17H00

Admissibilité

Pour être admissible à ce prix, les candidats doivent:

Être un résident en psychiatrie (research stream) effectuant présentement de la recherche ou être inscrit à un programme de doctorat dans une université accréditée ou être un stagiaire postdoctoral;
Avoir complété au moins un an de résidence en psychiatrie au Douglas (pour les résidents) ou au moins un an en recherche au Douglas (pour les étudiants au doctorat et postdocs);
Faire de la recherche dans le domaine de la dépression et/ou du suicide sous la supervision d’un chercheur principal qui est membre du Douglas;
Avoir une excellente liste de réalisations passées ainsi qu’un clair potentiel de contribuer à de nouvelles découvertes en lien avec les objectifs de ce prix (tels que décrit plus haut).

Deux prix d’une valeur de 2,000$ chacun

Procédure de candidature

Le(la) candidat(e) doit soumettre les documents suivants dans un seul document PDF:

Un curriculum vitae.
Une courte explication des raisons pour lesquelles il/elle pense être le/la candidat(e) idéal(e) pour recevoir ce prix (max. 200 mots).
Une description du projet de recherche (à la fois passé et à venir), incluant sa pertinence en regard des objectifs de ce prix tels que décrits plus haut (max. 500 mots).
Une courte lettre de recommandation du superviseur de recherche au Douglas (cette lettre peut être soit intégrée par le candidat au fichier de candidature ou envoyé directement par le superviseur à Colleen Carter, colleen.carter@douglas.mcgill.ca).

Soumettre le document de candidature PDF à Colleen Carter, à l’adresse colleen.carter@douglas.mcgill.ca, avec “candidature Carsley” comme titre de message, avant vendredi le 5 avril 2024, 17h00. Les soumissions en retard, les formulaires incomplets ou toute soumission ne respectant pas les critères ci-dessus ne seront pas pris en compte.

Les candidat(e)s seront informé(e)s des résultats du concours en mai 2024.
