The research team led by Dr. Naguib Mechawar has been awarded the Silver Prize of the Dr. Francis Wayne Quan Memorial Award, a distinction presented by the Journal of Psychiatry and Neuroscience (JPN) in collaboration with the Mach-Gaensslen Foundation of Canada.
This award, accompanied by a $1,500 grant, recognizes one of the best scientific articles published in JPN in 2024.
The award-winning study, entitled “Spatial transcriptomic analysis of adult hippocampal neurogenesis in the human brain”, is authored by Sophie Simard, PhD student, offers an in-depth analysis of neurogenesis within the adult human hippocampus, using advanced technological approaches—namely spatial transcriptomics and multiplexed in situ hybridization. In contrast to conventional methods, this combined approach enables a more precise characterization of neurogenic cells, based on both their transcriptomic profile and their specific localization within the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus.
