What are the mental health issues facing sexually and gender-diverse youth in Quebec? Dr. Marie-Claude Geoffroy explores this question, using data from the Quebec Longitudinal Study of Child Development (QLSCD) as part of a national study.

Sexually and gender diverse youth, including those identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, are growing in number in Canada. Despite Canada’s reputation for inclusivity, LGBT youth face significantly higher risks of mental health challenges. Unfortunately, there is a lack of understanding about how mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, suicidality and substance use, develop over time, and if and how mental health services are used by young people.
