Preclinical results show movement relies on a steady supply of dopamine, helping explain why current treatments work and how they could be improved
The McGill Newsroom has published a release concerning Dr. Nicolas Tritsch’s most recent publication, which challenges a popular theory about how dopamine drives movement. These findings could shift how we think about Parkinson’s disease treatments and were published in Nature Neuroscience.
“Our findings suggest we should rethink dopamine’s role in movement. Restoring dopamine to a normal level may be enough to improve movement. That could simplify how we think about Parkinson’s treatment.”
— Dr. Nicolas Tritsch, senior author, researcher at the Douglas Research Centre, and Assistant Professor in McGill’s Department of Psychiatry.
