Dr Nicolas Cermakian contributed to an article in Sciences & Avenir – La Recherche n°922, entitled, “How circadian rhythms regulate our health,” and written by Hervé Ratel:
“Long neglected, the study of the body’s biological cycles is of growing interest to researchers. For the disruption of our circadian clock can have major consequences for our physical and mental health.”
Dr. Cermakian’s contribution focuses on how the activitiy of medication can be affected by the individual’s circadian rhythm.
“Of the 100 most commonly prescribed drugs, no fewer than 56 target a rhythmic molecule in the body, suggesting that they may be more or less active depending on when they are administered. Circadian medicine involves taking into account the rhythms of our organisms. The field is still in its infancy, but I’m convinced that it will develop over the next few years, enabling us to personalize treatments.”
