Dr Nicolas Cermakian : On the time change – Le Devoir
Published on: 2024-10-24
The debate over the abolition of daylight saving time is intensifying, with questions about what schedule should be adopted throughout the year. In a letter published in Le Devoir, Dr Nicolas Cermakian stresses the importance of standard time. Historically, the time change was aimed at energy savings, but these never materialized. Today, studies show that standard time, more aligned with solar time, is essential for our biological clocks, regulating our sleep, health and productivity. According to Cermakian, adopting Daylight Saving Time throughout the year increases the risk of health problems and impairs performance at school and work.
«Being on daylight saving time year-round would increase various health disorders in the population, while negatively impacting our children’s attention and success in school and workers’ productivity.»
