Quant à la différence entre le Québec et le Canada, elle reste difficile à saisir, selon Eric Latimer, chercheur au Centre de recherche Douglas et professeur titulaire au Département de psychiatrie de l’Université McGill. « Mon hypothèse serait que l’augmentation des loyers a été particulièrement rapide au Québec, suppose-t-il. Les loyers étaient déjà très élevés dans les villes comme Toronto et Vancouver. Il y avait peut-être moins de gens qui étaient à la marge de perdre leur logement. »
