Biography

Yara Yakoub is a PhD candidate in the Department of Neurosciences at McGill University, working under the supervision of Dr. Sylvia Villeneuve. Her doctoral research focuses on fluid-based biomarkers and PET imaging in Alzheimer’s disease.

Title

Blood-based biomarkers in Alzheimer’s Disease

Abstract

Blood-based biomarkers offer a promising alternative to currently used gold-standard techniques, such as PET imaging, for the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathology. Beyond improving our understanding of disease mechanisms, blood-based biomarkers also provide a more affordable and rapid means of identifying individuals suited for preventative trials aimed at developing novel disease-modifying drugs. In this presentation, Yara Yakoub, PhD (candidate), will provide an overview of a large body of evidence conducted by leading laboratories worldwide on the associations between blood-based biomarkers, imaging, and cognitive measures, as well as the prognostic ability of these markers in tracking clinical progression compared to PET imaging.

How to attend

The event will be held in the Bowerman Room and broadcast via Zoom.
