Speaker

Victor Olalde
Research associate at the Neurobiology Institute, UNAM

Biography

Víctor has a PhD in Biomedical Science from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Since his master’s in neurobiology, his work has been centered in social neuroscience, specifically focused in assessing the neural correlates of the empathic response, using psychometric tests and magnetic resonance imaging in different types of populations. He also has a master’s in psychotherapy and has a certification in cognitive behavioral therapy. Currently, he is part of a group interested in understanding the cognitive and neural basis of empathy and social interactions.

Title

Components of the empath

Abstract

Empathy can be defined as an unberella term that encompasses all the subprocesses that interact in order to make our own representation of the other affective state. From this point of view there are several components that interact in different ways to continuously construct our empathic response. This interaction involves several brain areas and networks, that could reflect distinct brain functional architectures related to the ways these components interact within different populations, e.g. psychotherapist, cannabis users, firstime mothers.
