Menopause Matters: Assessing the Impact of Menopause on White Matter and Episodic Memory in Midlife

Abstract

The brain’s white matter tracts support the efficient transmission of information across brain regions necessary for cognitive operations, including episodic memory. Some females experience episodic memory decline during the menopausal transition, a period of significant neuroendocrinological change. Despite this, little is known about the impact of menopause on white matter and, crucially, the implications for episodic memory function at midlife in females. In this talk, I will discuss my recent work aiming to address this, relying on data collected by the Rajah Lab at the Douglas Research Centre.
