Imaging synaptic density in schizophrenia
Short Academic Biography
Rajiv Radhakrishnan MBBS, MD is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at Yale School of Medicine. He also serves as a Co-Medical Director of Yale PET Center. His research is focused on understanding the neurobiological basis of schizophrenia and the association between cannabis use and psychosis.
Recently, he has shown that in vivo brain synaptic density measured using [11C]UCB-J is lower in schizophrenia. This finding has been independently replicated across 2 other centers. In this talk, he will present new data on synaptic density in extreme phenotypes of schizophrenia and discuss the relevance of this finding to the genetic and environmental risk factors of schizophrenia.
