Krzysztof Szkop
2024-06-13 @ 11:00 - 12:00 EDT

Please join us for a Special Neuroscience Seminar on June 13, 2024.
Speaker
Dr. Krzysztof Szkop, PhD
Postdoctoral Researcher at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm
Title
Isoform-Level Translation : A Key Factor in ASD Brain Pathology
Biography
Dr. Szkop completed his PhD studies at Birkbeck, University of London under the supervision of Dr. Irilenia Nobeli, investigating the role of untranslated regions in autism spectrum disorder. He is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in the group of Dr. Ola Larsson at the Department of Oncology – Pathology at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. His current and ongoing research is centered on developing and applying bioinformatics approaches to study aspects of RNA fate in the context of human brain disorders and cancer.
Learning Objectives
After attending the seminar, participants will be able to:
- Familiarize with the emerging role of the mTOR pathway in modulating mRNA translation in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and links to depression and other psychiatric disorders.
- Understand how the selectivity of mRNA translation in ASD is influenced by features within mRNA untranslated regions and therefore understand the significance of studying changes in translation in psychiatric disorders.
- Recognize the potential of integrating isoform-level mRNA translation localization with single-cell transcriptomics/proteomics in identifying new pharmacological targets and biomarkers for psychiatric disorders.
How to participate
Join us in person at the Bowerman Room, Dobell Pavilion.
Note that the talk will also be broadcast on Zoom:
