BLOOM Study: Understanding Youth Mental Health

(Behavioral development, Long-term Outcomes and Opportunities to optimize youth Mental health trajectories) from the Centre of excellence in Youth Mental Health

We are seeking participants for the BLOOM study to better understand mental health in young people. Our primary goal is to identify factors that could have a negative or positive impact on the mental health of youth by assessing all aspects of their lives.  The study will take place over the course of 5 years, with yearly assessments.

Principal Investigator

Dr. Lena Palaniyappan

Description of study

Our study will include two groups of young people: those actively seeking mental health support at primary care settings such as CLSC, Aire ouverte, etc.  and those who are not currently seeking help, whom we will reach out to through our community partners.

We will use a variety of validated questionnaires as our core research tools, starting with an online self-assessment followed by an in-person meeting, with a total duration between 4 to 6 hours per year for a total of 5 years.

In addition, participants will be invited to participate in assessments such as MRI scans, MEG scans, Actigraphy, and genetic analysis using saliva or blood samples.

The participant will need to return annually for five years for the same assessment.
