Presentation Title
Structural and functional connectivity in frontotemporal dementia
Presentation abstract
The body of work presented focuses on the frontotemporal dementia (FTD) spectrum, a highly heterogeneous group of neurodegenerative diseases characterised by changes in personality, behaviour, language and motor function. Given the absence of disease-modifying treatments, understanding the timing and mechanisms of brain changes throughout the disease course is crucial for developing biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis and clinical trial monitoring. Through a series of studies conducted during her PhD, Dr Arabella Bouzigues investigated structural and functional connectivity in patients with FTD and presymptomatic carriers of genetic mutations. The objectives were to identify when and where connectivity markers deviate from normal, determine the earliest measurable alterations, and explore the interplay between structure and function in relation to pathology.

Biography
Dr Bouzigues completed her PhD at the Paris Brain Institute where she investigated novel multimodal imaging biomarkers to improve the early detection, differential diagnosis and monitoring of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). She has also been the lead central coordinator for the Genetic FTD Initiative (GENFI), a multicenter cohort study of presymptomatic genetic FTD, since 2020, based at University College London. She is also the Programs Chair for Alzheimer’s Association Professional Interest Area in FTD. Her postdoctoral work in Dr Montembeault’s lab focuses on identifying digital speech and language biomarkers and their neural correlates in FTD.
