Biography
Dr. Hsi Tiana Wei is a postdoctoral researcher at McGill University and the Douglas Mental Health University Institute, supported by CIHR Postdoctoral Research Award and Mitacs Fellowship. She is the recipient of multiple early-career awards recognizing her contributions to computational psychiatry and human neuroimaging. Her research lies at the intersection of cognitive neuroscience, electrophysiology, computational psychiatry, and artificial intelligence, integrating MEG/EEG with natural language processing to uncover the neural mechanisms underlying language, cognition, and their disruption in severe mental illness. Her current work focuses on how beta-band neural dynamics support predictive processing and how alterations in these dynamics relate to thought and language disturbances in psychosis. By combining computational characterization of natural speech with task-based and resting-state neurophysiology, she aims to identify mechanistically grounded markers linking brain dynamics to clinically meaningful dimensions of language dysfunction. More broadly, her research seeks to develop transdiagnostic biomarkers with relevance for understanding disease mechanisms, patient stratification, treatment response, and precision neuropsychiatry.
