Biography
Satyabrata Kar, a Professor of Medicine (Neurology) at the University of Alberta, is a basic science researcher working on Alzheimer’s disease. He obtained a PhD in 1990 from the University of London, England and then worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Associate at the Douglas Hospital Research Center under the supervision of Dr. Remi Quirion from 1990-1998. Subsequently, he worked as an Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, McGill University from 1999-2003 and then moved to the University of Alberta in 2003. His research over the last two decades relates to understanding the cause of the selective neuronal vulnerability in Alzheimer’s disease pathology. More recently, his team, using a variety of in silico, cellular and animal models, has identified a potential nanoparticle-based diagnostic/treatment strategy for Alzheimer’s disease, which is currently being validated from various ongoing experiments.
How to participate
The talk will be held in Room E-3517 (Perry Pavillion).
